Driving from Melbourne Australia Getting to/from the Darling River Run from Melbourne and Tasmania.

By Car

Driving from Melbourne to The Darling River Run provides several options to explore and visit NSW taking in the best that Outback NSW has to offer.  One can access Wentworth, Broken Hill and Bourke via sealed roads or for the more adventurous; The Long Paddock from Echuca (Moama) to Wilcannia is a wonderful tour through the centre (The northern section of The Long Paddock is a dry weather road.

Melbourne to Wentworth The Calder Highway

Distance: 570 km - about 7 hours 12 mins (est)

Driving The Calder Freeway to Mildura (then onto Wentworth) takes in Bendigo, Charlton, Ouyen and Mildura.

Melbourne to Wilcannia
The Long Paddock (Cobb Highway

Distance: 842 km - about 10 hours 13 mins (est)

Taking the Hume Highway to Wallan, then the Northern Highway to Echuca/Moama and The Long Paddock (The Cobb Highway). This route will take in the Victorian towns of Kilmore, Heathcote, Rochester and Echuca.  The Long Paddock stating at Moama will allow a wonderful journey through Deniliquin, Hay, and Ivanhoe with the remaining section to Wilcannia being a dry-weather gravel road.

Melbourne to Bourke:
The Kidman Way: Distance: 1,020 km - about 13 hours 1 min (Est)

The Kidman Way which starts at Jerilderie is reached either via the Northern Highway to Echuca then the Cobb Highway to Deniliquin and then through Conargo to Jerilderie or via Shepparton and Tocumwal  (Goulburn Valley Highway) then though Finley on the Newell Highway. The journey along The Kidman Way takes in Darlington Point, Griffith, Hillston, and Cobar before reaching Bourke.

Melbourne to Walgett:
The Newell & Castlereagh Highways
Distance 1,109 km - about 13 hours 32 mins (Est)

The drive from Melbourne to Walgett up the Newell highway makes a nice adventure through The Riverina via Finley, Narrandera, West Wyalong, Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo, and Gilgandra. From there, The Castlereagh Highway through Coonamble completes the journey to Walgett.
