Getting to/from the Darling River Run from Brisbane and south-east Queensland
By Car
As the tributaries of the Darling River are supplied from south east Queensland, access to the Run is easy and starts a two good options for those who wish to visit Toowoomba (Warrego Highway) or visit Warwick (Cunningham Highway) and then onto Goondiwindi. From there, drive the Newell to Moree and then the Gwydir Highway to Walgett.
As an alternative, or for a different return trip, at Moree continue south along the Newell Highway to West Wyalong then west to Hay and onto Wentworth via the Sturt Highway.
Brisbane to Wentworth Warrego <> Cunningham > Newell > Mid Western > Sturt Highway
Distance: 1,690 km - about 20 hours 28 mins (Est)
This wonderful tour allows the traveller to experience the fabulous Darling Downs, across the Macintyre River (The Queensland-NSW Border), through the central plains and across the southern NSW Riverina, and onto the confluence of the Murray and Darling rivers at Wentworth.
The shorter route to The Darling River still travels through the eastern Darling Downs and across the Macintyre River (The Queensland-NSW Border). Instead of travelling down the Newell past Moree, take the Gwydir Highway west to Walgett for the upstream start of The Darling River Run.
