The Darling River - Routes
Driving from Adelaide to Outback NSW Getting to/from the Darling River Run from Adelaide

By Car

Adelaide, being the closest capital city to the Darling River, is ideally located to experience Outback NSW and The Darling River Run. Whether your trip starts (or finishes) in Adelaide or wanting to incorporate this adventure before or after you visit Adelaide, anyone planing to visit South Australia should also consider The Darling River Run.

The Run is easily accessed via the Sturt Highway (taking in Renmark) or the Barrier Highway (To visit Broken Hill).

For those who plan to visit Adelaide from the east also have these two options

Adelaide to Wentworth
Sturt Highway

Distance: 422 km - about 5 hours 34 mins (Est)

Taking up the Sturt Highway at Gawler the drive continues east through Waikerie and provides the opportunity to visit Renmark. Continuing east through the North West corner of Victoria to the border with NSW. Before getting to Mildura there is a small shortcut straight to Wentworth but it is well worth the few extra kilometres to visit Mildura and experience what this wonderful town on the Murray River has to offer.

Adelaide to Menindee
Barrier Highway

Distance: 622 km - about 8 hours (Est)

The Barrier Highway route, while longer, not only allows the traveller to quickly get to the central Darling but provides the bonus to visit Broken Hill - The jewel of western NSW.

Menindee, which is on the Darling River, is also where the fabulous Menindee Lakes are in addition to Kinchega National Park which boast some of the best and most accessible stretches of the Darling River.
